What this format is
A FIT file is a stream of records. One bad byte usually makes other converters refuse the whole activity. Repair reads past the damage and keeps every valid point.
How to get the file
- From Garmin Connect
- 1. Export original from Garmin Connect if the activity still opens there.
- 2. If Connect itself will not open it, drop the file here anyway — this page is for that case.
- From Strava
- 1. If a file from a bulk export fails on the Strava export page, drop that single .fit here.
What is kept and what is lost
| Kept | Lost or missing |
|---|---|
| Every record that still decodes: GPS, HR, cadence, power | The damaged stretch, and anything after a truncated file if the stream ends |
Questions
What kind of damage can this fix?
A truncated download, a bad byte in the record stream, or a file other converters refuse outright. Unreadable stretches are skipped.
Will Garmin Connect accept the result?
If enough valid records remain, yes — that is the point. You get a GPX of the points that decoded, which Connect will import.
Is the original FIT overwritten?
No. The damaged file stays on your disk. You download a new copy.
